LET’S HAVE A REUNION – 60 YEARS??

Hi Everyone –

We are ready to get together and are looking forward to a really wonderful time! This email will give you everything important to know about the venue, parking, food and beverage, music, dress code, hotels, and payment methods. Let’s get started!

Saturday, July 25, is our date for spending time starting at 2pm until we are done, maybe 7pm? We are grateful to Cherry Ellerbee Spencer-Stark for inviting us to have our gathering in this great venue where her family are members.

We also have a request for the Class of 1965 to join us so if you wish to reach out to friends in that class, feel free to share this information. We do not have contact information for many in that class but some have asked to join us.

VENUE

The Marietta Country Club (not to be confused with the Marietta Convention Center where we have been decades ago) is at 1400 Marietta Country Club Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30152. The main number is 770-426-1808. Take a peek (if you haven’t been there before) at www.mariettacountryclub.org . It is a very lovely venue with good food. During COVID, we had the 55-year reunion there and really enjoyed it.

PARKING

There is plenty of FREE parking in the front and on the side of the club plus a portico in the front where you may do a drop-off, if necessary. Our event will be noted inside the front entrance, but any host can direct you to our space. There are plenty of restrooms for quick comfort. The staff is very efficient and kind.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Our set-up is for appetizers, snacks and both cold and hot hors d’oeuvres. This is NOT a buffet seated lunch/dinner. There will be plenty. We will also have a station with water pitchers, coffee, hot tea, and unsweet and sweet iced tea. We will have both low top tables and chairs and high-top tables all covered in lovely white linens.

Soft drinks, beer, wine, and mixed drinks with liquor will be available at the SWHS custom bar in our reunion room. There will be a bartender accepting your orders at this CASHLESS bar (except for the tip jar). Please bring your credit/debit cards as the bartender will not accept any cash as payment for your alcoholic beverages.

MUSIC

You know we will have our beloved 60’s music playing throughout our fun. Let’s hear it for the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and of course the Motown we love.

DRESS CODE

We know you know how to dress BUT just in case you might have a question, here it is: Business casual – sandals permitted but no flip-flops, shirts with sleeves but no tank tops, long pants preferable but nice dress shorts can be acceptable. Absolutely no jeans with any holes in them, nice dress jeans acceptable. Certainly, no beachwear and suits and ties are not necessary.

HOTELS

A big thanks to Mike Wilkins for putting this hotel information together for us. As always, the best pricing may be if you check these out online and make your reservations there. Their web sites should be easy to find but we are providing the local telephone numbers to help you.

Remember, our reunion is Saturday, July 25 so give yourself time to spend with everyone. If you are coming in from out of the area, grab one of these and spend a night!

All three of these hotels are right together three miles away from the Marietta Country Club and should be easy to find.

PAYMENT

Our negotiated price per guest is $70 including service fees and local taxes.

Your DEADLINE for payment to me is Wednesday, July 15. I must have all monies in to be able to pay the venue and guarantee the number of guests we will have for them to prepare the food.

Here are your payment methods:

CHECKS or MONEY ORDERS: Payable to Nancy Barbee Ross, 504 East Gulley Avenue, Oakland, Florida 34787. Please be sure to put your full name (female classmates include maiden name) on your check/money order on the bottom left line so I know who to register. Check must be received by July 15. I will deposit it the same day, if possible, to be sure you see it clears your account. This will be your indication that you are registered for the reunion. Mail early! Please bring your spouse or partner to enjoy the fun!

Go to the Request/Pay page on your phone to enter the amount you are sending. In the lower “What’s this for?” box, enter your full name (female classmates include maiden name) and spouse or partner so I know who to register. Payment must be received by Wednesday, July 15. Your verification email will tell you your payment has been received. I will track your payment as I transfer the amount to the bank account.

This Saturday, November 6, 2021, the class will gather once again to celebrate each other. We will be at the Marietta Country Club, 1400 Country Club Drive, Kennesaw GA. It's a beautiful venue with amazing cuisine and we can't wait to share time together. Photos from this Saturday's event will be posted on this website as soon as they can be gathered from all attending and combined to one posting. We will miss you if you can't join us.

December 15, 2020 - Just an update that thanks to your amazing donations, our website and storage have been secured until May, 2025. 

Memories of our July 23, 2016 reunion are still with me. It was such a great gathering of great people. The comments were great and we learned that most everyone thought we didn't have enough time.  

Give us your thoughts for the future and let's get a group together soon.

We have, thanks to your donations and a special three-year offer from the vendor, been able to extend our membership for the website to May 2020!!!

Just to recap, we had already paid the membership through May 2017. Two of our classmates sent checks (and you know who you are) specifically targeted to pay for one-year renewals each.......totaling two years or $300. With the vendor offering a three-year special for only $50 more, we now have added those three years.

Your 50th Reunion Committee, made totally of volunteers, began working on this event in June of 2015. A small group met to discuss our hopes and dreams for getting together this year. That group was Robert Belloir, John Burger, Trudy Howard Wray and Nancy Barbee Ross. Additionally Randy Bostwick and David Sitton contributed their thoughts before that meeting.

Since that time, our committee has grown and everyone has either started working on their piece or will be working on a piece until our July 23, 2016 event.  Those additional classmates who have volunteered are:Fran(ces) Cleland (Sweet); Jeannie Dickinson (Ellington); Barbara Eaves (Hubbard); Roddy Royal; Rick Gower; Tony Bryson; Patti Abbey (Hughes) and Bonnie Bubb (Brandi Boyle).

NOTE:  This website has been booked and funded for a one-year period beginning May 25, 2016. Donations may be used to continue to maintain this website until the committee and class decides to end this membership.
